The property is relaxing, peaceful and perfect for just chilling out on the awesome deck or as a home base for exploring the beaches and the area.
We welcome couples or two couples travelling together; it’s also great for families with children over 5 years old (babies are ok).
Maurie is an organic farmer. He likes to meet and talk with people. He is passionate about the environment; the forests, the mountains, the beach and likes to understand and study insects and animals.
Jan is an lyengar Yoga teacher. She likes the quiet of country living and the beach. She loves the tropics, the rain, the humidity, the heat. Mostly she loves the outdoor living that can only be found on the tropics.
This is a passive home built elevated to allow the cool breezes to circulate underneath, as all original Queenslanders were built. It also allows the breezes to flow through the home. There is no aircon but it’s not needed; you will be pleasantly surprised at how cool and how quiet this home is.
There is a large 4 metre deck off the living area facing north and a balcony along the bedrooms on the western side.
The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. Gas stove top, dishwasher, microwave and plenty of bench space. So if you like cooking you will love it.
The 2 bay carport is exclusively for your use.
If you would like a guided walk, Maurice would be delighted to take you at a small charge. He is extremely knowledgeable about farming, and can tell you a little about the flora and fauna of the area.
Interaction with guests
Walking Tracks: There are several tracks in varying degrees of difficulty within the area.
Beach activities: You can hire a small boat. Go island hopping, visit the reef or kayak across to Dunk with local operators.
Adventure Sports: Jump the Beach (Parachute), White water rafting down the Tully River.
Visit a chocolate factory or have a drink in a country pub – (see if you find the poker machine).
Local swimming holes 15- 40 minutes away to keep you cool in the warmer months.
Local Markets are on the first and third Sunday of the month. Monster markets are on the last Sunday of the month between April and December.
There are numerous cafes and restaurants, and some interesting and different clothing stores.
Mission Beach is a great base for visiting the Tablelands, Innisfail, Cardwell.
Other things to note
We provide fresh seasonal fruit, bread and milk for the first day.
If you like bird watching, the deck is great for viewing birds, butterflies, insects, wallabies and sometimes a glimpse of a cassowary. Its quiet at night and with very low light pollution here, you can see the stars and sometimes vivid sunsets behind the mountains just sitting on the deck.

Not safe or suitable for children (0-12 years) – Not suitable for toddlers. The deck is 1 metre off the ground with no hand rails. Babies and children 5 years plus are ok.
